Do we have a choice in predestination?

Question:

Answer

Pastors’ response: Firstly, what is predestination? Maybe we need to understand that predestination presupposes that God already has predetermined the outcome of one’s life some even go has far as saying all the details of one’s life and God has predetermined it and so some say you can’t do more than what God has determined you are going to be, question can you do less, some say well anything you ever going to do will be because God already said so. Well, that means we are not free moral agents then if God is running the whole thing what does the bible say I am going to read you a very complex portion of the bible in respect to predestination.
Romans 9:10 I am reading... Well, that means we are not free moral agents then if God is running the whole thing what does the bible say I am going to read you a very complex portion of the bible in respect to predestination.
Romans 9:10 I am reading you from verse Ten, “And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; Verse 11 “(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) verse 12 “It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. Verse 13 “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Verse 14 “What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. Verse 15 “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Verse 16 “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Verse 17 “For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Verse 18 “Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Verse 19 “Thou wilt say then unto me, why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Verse 20 “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Verse 21 “Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonor? Verse 22 “What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: Verse 23 “And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Verse 24 “Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? Verse 25 “AS he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. Verse 26 “And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.”
Beautiful, I said it’s the complex portion of the bible, it actually deals with fully with predestination and I want you to study it on your own and see exactly what it says. The interest thing is that God’s plan for all of us is good. God’s plan for all of us is good then you say what about those people we just mentioned like Esu, Pharaoh, and even Judas what about them. Did God determine to destroy them, was that God’s plan as much as it is not for us to decide whether or not that was God’s plan, it is important for us to know that which is reviled unto us. The bible says “God is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). And then it says what if God willing to show power or his mercy endured with much long suffering, endured with long much suffering, what if God did that, in other words is letting us understand something about God and those characters. Now, there is an attribute of deity that is important for us to know it is called the fore knowledge of God which means God already knows your tomorrow, God already knows everything about you. Now if the thinking that the word of God gives us is true which is that everyone, every human person is a free moral agent, which means he has the power of choice it then means that God is not responsible for their choices. It means that God through his fore knowledge already knew what they will be and how they will act because they make choices. Is God responsible for human choices? No!, he already said his not, he already said he is not because he told us to make choices otherwise he would have said that don’t worry I have already chosen for you but he didn’t say that he told us to make choices and that proves that he left our destiny in our hands really, he gave us choices. So, that is very very important and the more important thing that we should look at is about us, we should not be concern about, what does God want XYZ to do. Did God chose John, Did God chose Clement, Did God chose whoever, did God chose them for destruction, Did God chose them for salvation. We should be asking did God chose me, I will tell you why? I will read it to you in Saint John gospel, John 21:18, Jesus actually if you being reading from Verse 15 you will notice the dialog here between Jesus and Simon Peter, Jesus was talking to Peter about is life about is future. Then he says from verse 15 “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
John 21:18 “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. Verse 19 “This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me”. See he let Peter know what is future will be and how he would die now watch, in verse 20 “Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper” This was John, he turned around and saw John following them and Jesus had asked him come on and John was coming along too. Now he says let me read 20 again “Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? He is remaining us of that occasion that night betrayal, there was one who leaned on Jesus chest, on his breast asking Lord who is going to betray you. He is letting us know whom this disciple who is going to betray Jesus is, Now this was John, it was John who did that that night. Okay verse 21 “Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? He wanted to know what God’s purpose was for John, verse 22 “Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me. In other words it is not your business, he says that if I want him to remain till I come what does that mean to you. He says follow me He didn’t give him an answer, he says that is not your business that’s why I am saying to you what matters here is, does God want you?, has God chosen you for salvation. What is God’s dream for you, what is God’s purpose for you? Now that leads us into how God determines this, how does God chose people? He sent us as his ambassadors, he sent us with the gospel of Jesus Christ that is the way he chooses people if you will believe salvation is yours, if you will not believe then you are condemned. So, you can know a man who is condemned through the rejection of the gospel. You can know a man who is chosen for salvation through his acceptance of the gospel.
I read to you Titus 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;” He is talking about the eternal life God promised before the world began and he says he has manifested that word through preaching. See he promised to give eternal life through preaching to all and he fulfilled his promise through preaching, so eternal life to come to everyone through the preaching of the gospel. So, that’s the opportunity given to everyone and that’s why we must preach the gospel because that’s God’s way of choosing people. Again in Romans 1:16 “for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes to the Jews first, and also to the Gentiles.” So the gospel is the power of God to save. So, no one can be saved except through the gospel. So, if is the gospel of Jesus Christ that is used in chosen people and the choice is made by their believing, so all those who believe are predestinated for glory and all those who don’t believe are predestinated for God’s wrought so that’s the way it is, you will know who is chosen for what through their believing and what about the details of their everyday life that’s very simple, now that I am saved, now that I am a child of God. How can I tell more about my destiny in the things of God. But very simple first, get acquainted with the word of God by studying the written word of God. The written word of God is the voice of God to you that’s the way you will get to know the Holy Spirit’s voice, you see you are educated, your spirit is educated on spiritual things through your knowledge of the scriptures. If you can understand the word and learn the word you will be educated in your understanding of the voice of the Holy Spirit to you. Now, and the book of Hebrews 10:6 “In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Verse 7 “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.” He says I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thee will, so it was written about Jesus is whole life was written in the scriptures, the word of God for his life was written in the Scriptures. So, there is a book in the presence of God that has everything about your life, this is very important, if you get acquainted with the Holy Spirit he will guide you into all truth that’s God’s promise, it will guide you into all truth and you will get to know God’s purpose, specific purpose for your personal life. That’s very very important for you today. Last I will read to you in 1 Corinthians 1:21 “for after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe”. 1 Corinthians 1:21 “for after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching… because people thinks is foolishness for you to preach, then why are you preaching, why are you talking to me, why do you have to preach?, why do you have to say it out loud, why don’t you believe for yourself, so it sounds foolish that we will be preaching openly and publicly everywhere. So God actually choose to reach people to save them through this so called foolishness of preaching. So, that’s God’s way of choosing those who believe and getting them into the destiny that he has chosen for them but for every individual you can learn more about your destiny through the Holy Spirit by getting first acquainted with the Scriptures.
